I just encountered this. I looked for images of “White House Rose Garden” and 90% of I got was images of it getting bulldozed for getting paved over per Trump’s recent command.
So I looked for images from 1980-2010 and 90% of I got was historical stuff NOT from that time range – like yellowed photos of how it looked before Jackie O’ made it the Rose Garden, or pictures of MLK or other random gardens.
There HAVE to be images of the Rose Garden from before Melania ripped out the trees in Trump’s previous term. Where did they go?

Where did all the other photos go???
Wow, you’d think it wouldn’t be this hard. There’s White House archives online, but they all seem to be text only. Articles about the rose garden, but never any pictures. And when it’s an article with pictures from 2000-2016, it’s only historical pictures, as if showing a contemporary picture would be the most redundant thing to do in an article about a rose garden.
Is tysto someone’s personal archive of whitehousemuseum.org? I don’t get the domain name, the home page mentions the other domain (which is for sale). Wikipedia lists whitehousemuseum.org under “External links” for a collection of photos.
No idea what tysto is. but I wanted to warn people that it is not secure.
It also looks like that 1973 picture of Nixon’s bedroom is newer than the website design, so I’m not surprised it isn’t using https.
Exactly. Just recently found out a favorite creator of mine has shut down his youtube channel and all their videos spanning over a decade are just gone. Feelsbadman.jpg.
Data rot is a serious problem.
I suspect that our time period will end up as an information dark age to future historians.
Murphy’s law
Or more accurately: Finagle’s law, often confused with Murphy’s law. Murphy’s law is more about UI design that shouldn’t allow for mistakes. Finagle’s law is about bad luck and the general perversity of the universe.
Murphy’s law predates anything that could be considered UI design.
