  • I completely agree, its just…

My autistic brain just… I can’t immediately grasp the idea that most people just do not bother to look into things in detail, most people have no innate drive to… investigate whether or not what they believe is actually correct.

I’m not saying you have to be autistic to want to be factually correct, to want to fully investigate things so as to not believe and repeat bullshit…

But I am saying that my mind just… I always have to consciously step back and go… oh, right, most people are just vibes based, about literally everything, they don’t have an automatic ‘wait, am i actually correct?’ mechanism built in as a check to 99% of what they see and believe.

My brain has analytical logic mode, and… social mode. What actually, mechanistically makes sense, vs… what do most people actually act like?

I can either approach things in either of these two ways, but when I start to try and mix both, I get frustrated by very obvious and apparent hyprocrisies and inconsistencies everywhere, very quickly.

  • Well at least you can admit you are selfish at the level of your own entire species and whether or not it continues to exist, to say nothing of all of the destruction this will do to the biosphere and countless billions of non human animals.

Its usually pretty hard to get Boomers to admit they have any negative attributes at all, because they are all perfect in all the ways that matter to them.

  • Ok, got it, you flip flopped from ‘nah it wont be that bad’ to ‘well if we all die thats just fate’.

Thats uh, either death cult thinking mentality, or extreme apathy after being explained why the position you hold is wrong, which in my experience, is extremely stereotypical Boomer behavior.

    ‘This won’t be a problem’

    Actually it will, here’s why.

‘Oh well, nothing to do about it.’

Yes, thank you for being an obstinate, disingenuous hypocrite, very useful and productive behavior.

I am amazed that you can just say the end of the human species is ‘alright’.

The moral selfishness of that is astounding.

  • I gotta admit, what little is left of my inner liberal was legitimately shocked (and then laughed uproariously) to hear the President of the US just drop an emphatic FUCK while directly speaking to a reporter, live, on camera… to insult his ostensible main ally, whom 24 hours ago he invoked GOD—… to protect, again, live, on camera.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of that happening before.

I am laughing again just typing out how comically farsical this all is.

Yep, some real, reality TV here, hope we don’t all evaporate in nuclear hellfire.

  • I… I know what it literally is.

I am just baffled that anyone would actually need this explained to them, but at the same time, I completely understand that most Americans are not capable of doing basic research and analysis on their own, and are propgandized all to hell.

Like… this was all easily discernible that this is what this particular tax cut would do, back in 2017.

Don’t get me wrong, its important to have this on the record… but its the exact same bullshit from Trump’s first term, just now they want it to be a 23% deduction instead of 20%.

EDIT: Maybe I am ‘biased’ as to how obvious this is, in that I have an Econ degree, and also a memory span that extends backwards in time far enough to remember a whole bunch of other people with Econ and Accounting degrees saying this is what this tax cut would do, on national television, in articles, being cited by online commentators, etc… back when this was being argued over 8 years ago.

  • Im not American so I dont have a 401k, and im not part of New Deal or Great Society style programs…

Well, sorry, I shouldn’t have directed this all at precisely you,… but I am used to ‘Boomer’ being a term Americans invented and used to describe their post WW2 population cohort… because that is the actual etymylogical origin of the term.

    https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/baby-boomer.html

The term ‘baby boomer’ was coined in the USA, clearly with reference to the already widely known ‘baby boom’.

The term ‘baby boomer’ was coined in the USA, clearly with reference to the already widely known ‘baby boom’. This wasn’t for some years after WWII and the earliest citation I’ve found is surprisingly late – a piece in The Bennington Banner from December 1977:

This page has its first use in the US in 1977, as well as more background on the largely US centric and temporally first development of the term.

    https://www.oed.com/dictionary/baby-boomer_n?tl=true

The earliest known use of the noun baby boomer is in the 1960s.

OED’s earliest evidence for baby boomer is from 1963, in Brattlebro (Vermont) Daily Reformer.

    Another US origin.

If you are using Boomer to mean a non US person in that same age group, I guess that works, but perhaps you can see how that would lead me to assume you are American.

About perishing because climate change, I dont believe that will happen.

You are just objectively wrong then.

We’ve got major acturarial societies saying the cumulative World GDP will be massively shrinking within 20 years, as in less than it is now, with a billion or so more people to house and feed and employ… from climate change losses.

We’ve got global warming consistently exceeding consensus projections.

We’ve got almost all the world’s fertile crop producing land going through a major climate shift or series of increasingly extreme shocks in the next 20 years.

The media just largely stopped talking about these topics.

In the US, we’re looking at about 1/3 of the country’s homes being too climate risky to insure, in just the next 5 to 10 years, insurers are already pulling out, local government run insurance could only work if they massively tax the wealthy, which they won’t… so all those areas will be econonomically dead and climate ravaged in just 5 to 10 years.

All across the country, all of our farms are going untended, crops unharvested, because ICE is arresting migrant farm laborers willy nilly, and they often target places of work, so… they’re not working anymore, and the result is going to be an artificially induced famine, an American Holodomor, massive food price increases, basically unless the entire Trump regime and MAGA movement is magicked out of existence, or they all suddenly become … whatever the opposite of a deranged, craven idiot is.

If the US goes into a full depression, its because of its leaders. The rest of us havent done anything. I think you should blame them, and not previous generations of people just like yourself.

Precisely. I will blame the masses of voters who fell for the bs of the leaders, who voted them into power, who voted away their rights and futures… in a democratic society.

Obviously the leaders themselves are evil.

But if our leaders are the problem, and they have been enabled, and not stopped, and we know they are leading us to ruin… and everyone just goes ‘not my fault, i didn’t do the really bad stuff personally, directly, myself!’, then congrats, most of us will die and the rest will suffer greatly.

The entire evil of unexamined complex systems is that they abstract out things into so many layered steps that everyone can argue they aren’t truly responsible or their actions were justified within the context of their specific role.

The purpose of a system is what it actually does, not what it purports or claims to do.

The only way to stop this is by applying Nuremberg style ‘just following orders is not an excuse’ logic, otherwise, again, most of humanity is going to die between 2040 and 2060.

… But, we have also passed the historical point where doing this would be even maybe kind of politically possible or likely.

  • Yeah… from what I remember of dicking around in universe sandbox and space engine a while back… yeah, an impact this massive would … well, now it makes more sense to model earth as a multilayered, viscous liquid, basically.

You could end up with a ring system or possibly some minor moons, made out of ejecta.

After basically the entire Earth has turned into ‘the floor is lava’ for… decades? centuries?

Every single nuke in the world pointed at the same spot could not achieve anything even close to this.

This would require an asteroid/comet impact … an order of magnitude, or two, or three, more destructive than the chicxulub impact that wiped out the dinosaurs.

The entire chicxulub impact crater is about the size of ‘Mound Island’.

An impact this huge would probably shatter the crust of much of, if not the entire planet, and turn the entire atmosphere into fire.

  • That is true.

Though… I find the assumption they are talking about Cyberpunk 2077 more realistic:

CyberPunk 2077 did have a very controversial, busted ass broken launch, took em like 2 or 3 years to fully fix it up.

Whereas like… a person with an anime avatar… is presumably familiar… with anime?

    Akira? Ghost in the Shell?

Is… cyberpunk as a genre generally… controversial? In… modern day?

I can see it as more controversial like, 20 to 30 years ago… back when Pokemon cards were literally demon magic, as was DnD.

    But not present day?

I realize this is not infallible logic… but the idea of an anime fan who finds the genre of cyberpunk controversial… this is basically ridiculous to me, whereas 77 much more recently was in much more controversy.

Or, perhaps I am just old.

  • Its actually somewhat confusing.

Sometimes, to some people… topping just means you are literally, physically on top of them.

Sometimes, it means you are doing the physical penetrating.

Sometimes, top/bottom are the same as dom/sub… to mean authoritative vs submissive…

But you have terms like power bottom, and service top.

A power bottom is physically underneath the partner, but doing almost all the work, and is often also in the authority position.

A service top is physically on top, and/or doing most of the strenuous/penetrative physical work… but they are actually submissive, subervient to the other partner, who is authoritatively directing all their actions.

The vocab for all this is still quite varied and usually only standardizes fully amongst geographically constrained areas, as you would expect with what is basically a set of slang terms.

  • Sure, we may want the same things, but we don’t go about trying to obtain them in the same way.

Your generation largely has those things… you know, housing, a retirement investment plan… younger generations largely do not, and they never will, because your generation climbed the ladder set up for you by your elders, and then you guys blew it up with dynamite after you finished climbing it, in order to selfishly preserve your own status.

This ultimately destroyed society in the process, and now, well, that bomb your generation threw at the ladder after climbing up the wall… has done collateral damage to the wall itself, and will soon crumble, and you all will have impoverished yourselves and all your children.

The housing market is currently crashing, Trump’s mismanagement has damaged your 401k, and Trump and the Reps really, really want to destroy Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, VA Tricare, all that shit… and the US economy will soon enter into a Second Great Depression, and most of you will die alone, being mistreated in understaffed, corporate run retirement homes, or just on the streets homeless after your house gets foreclosed on and you can’t find work you can actually do.

Your generation could have instead been more equitable with your historically anomalous and freakish amount of prosperity… by continuing and expanding upon the New Deal and Great Society style programs.

Instead, your generation dismantled them, and it made things so unfair and unstable that, unless you are one of the very few who made it into the top 1 to 0.1%, most of your material wealth and accompanying social status will evaporate right when you need it the most.

Oh and there’s also the whole… climate change thing, which your generation refused to take seriously during the timeframe where doing so could have made a difference, so the result is that now most of humanity is doomed to perish this century.

You are the generation that grew up watching a man transposed forward in time, bellowing "You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!” … and then your generation just… did that, blew it all to hell.

  • Much like how it is very easy to pass laws and ordinances that fuck over the homeless, it is also easy to pass laws and ordinances that fuck over prisoners.

The US Constitutional + Ammendments explicitly allows slavery as punishment for a crime you’ve been convicted of.

The Supreme Court has now repeatedly just thrown all prior existing legal case precedent out the window and just made such nakedly hypocritical rulings that its fair to say they are a completely biased and arbitrary institution.

The rule of law in the US is dead, is a farsical joke.

Some state will just pass a law that says uh hey, if you’re a prisoner in a facility in our state, and the state has some kind of extraordinary need, we can force you into involuntary labor.

Then other states will copy this once it passes one state’s court, then in 6 months-ish it’ll get to the Supreme Court who will say yep, checks out, carry on, and then every other red state and half the blue states will do it as well.

I am not 100% sure this will happen, but it is very, very plausible. 95% sure something like this will happen within 5 to 10 years, possibly less.

Also… its illegal to be homeless now, and the economy is crashing. Get foreclosed on, can’t pay rent, end up in the streets, living in your car?

Yep, why not crack down on that like ICE is cracking down on migrants, now you’re convicted of being homeless, the punishment is a few years of forced labor.

  • Its truly incredible.

Their response will just be to fold, to literally sell the farm, and also at the same time never even be cognizant of the fact that they got exactly what they voted for, that Trump repeatedly said he was going to do exactly this, that lefties screamed about Project 2025 and the resounding response was basically ‘pff, he’s just bluffing,’ and then making up a fan fiction version of what Dear Leader will actually do.

They’re just gonna revert back to the ‘no one wants to work’ mantra untill we just literally put our incarcerated prisoners to work in the fields, going full circle all the way back to slavery.

These idiots didn’t even realize how dependant they were on so many massive subsidy programs untill they poofed out of existence, again, 100% in line with Trump’s platform.

Has any nation in history fucking autolobotomized as hard and as fast as we have?

Literally the world’s sole super power 20/30 years ago, and in a single generation we have destroyed ourselves in almost every way possible, short of just nuking ourselves.

  • Also Trump mad because DOGE was a failure (from a budget cut perspective), and Trump mad because he wants to pass the big beautiful bill that will astonishingly explode the national debt and defecit, but Trump is either too stupid to understand that it will do that, or he’s mad that anyone in his circle would publically say as much… or some combo of both.

Its like with the tariffs: Trump is genuinely so stupid he doesn’t understand how any of this actually works, but at the same time, any idea he came up with is a good idea and fuck you if you disagree… because he has the emotional maturity of a narcissistic 12 year old.
