Don’t give them your phone password. You don’t have to and that threat of prison or fines was complete bullshit. They could deny him entry, but that’s it, and they can’t deny a US citizen.
They can literally arrest non-citizens indefinitely while “awaiting” deportation. There is no upper time limit and anyone handling his case can just make “mistakes” requiring any deportation request to be re-re-re-re-submitted.
The commenter that started this is a citizen, deportation is not in the options. And for non-citizens, it’s not like giving them your password protects you from what you describe.

Even though it’s actually not possible to deport citizens, so it’s just kidnapping and trafficking them. And that story above is about known incidents from 2015-2020. God only knows how bad it is now. But do not think you are safe if you are a US citizen. You are not.
